GRIFFITH FILM
GRADUATE BOOKLET
This project was developed in response to a design brief presented by Griffith University. The task was to create a bold, engaging booklet showcasing the graduating class of film students - their names, faces, and final works all in one place. It was intended to be both a celebratory artifact and a professional piece of promotional material for the students as they enter the industry.
Problem & Solution
Griffith’s film school wanted to move away from the predictable, template-driven look of previous years. They were seeking a fresh, visually striking approach that better reflected the creativity and individuality of the students it represented. My solution was to craft a design that pushed away from the conventional, instead drawing from cinematic and graphic design history to build something memorable and dynamic.
Research & Inspiration
Given the project’s connection to film, I turned to one of my biggest influences, Saul Bass. His iconic poster designs and title sequences inspired me to create something bold, abstract, and immediately attention-grabbing. I wanted the design to not only reflect the medium of film but also stand out as a piece of design in its own right.
Process & Tools
My process began with a deep dive into the brief, distilling its key requirements and constraints. I then turned to visual references, collecting a range of inspiration through Pinterest and design blogs. I created 20 thumbnail sketches to rapidly explore different compositions and concepts. From there, I selected the strongest concept and developed a refined sketch, which I presented to the client for feedback. After a round of revisions based on their input, I finalised the layout and artwork in Adobe InDesign and Illustrator.
Outcome
The final design was professionally printed and distributed as a hard copy booklet to all film graduates. It has since been used as both a keepsake and a promotional tool, helping to mark the students’ transition from university to the creative industry.
